Description Tacrolimus (also FK506) is a macrolide lactone immunosuppressive drug discovered from a soil sample that contained the bacterium Streptomyces tsukubaensis in 1984 by Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Tacrolimus acts like cyclosporine and its systemic use is mainly for the prevention of allograft rejection and the treatment of immune disease. Different from cyclosporine, it can penetrate through epidermis barrier due to its relatively small molecular mass. Therefore to avoid systemic adverse reactions, it can be made into external preparation to treat various immune inflammatory cutaneous disorders.
